The Beach Union High School Robotics Club is celebrating after their robot, "Sandy," secured a top-four finish at the district qualifier, punching their ticket to the regional championship next month. The team spent the last eight weeks after school in the engineering lab, rebuilding "Sandy" from the wheels up to handle this season's obstacle course. The team captain, a senior engineering student, led the redesign of the arm mechanism that ultimately clinched the qualifying run. Coaches say the club has grown from six members to over twenty in just two years, and they are now fundraising for the trip to compete against forty other schools from across the region.
